Instructor, New Wave Putting

Coach Mike started his life journey in golf at the age of 15 where he was mentored by the LPGA touring pro at his country club in Southern Maryland.

After graduating from Frostburg State University Mike briefly worked in corporate marketing. After that he opened the largest golf retail store in Southern Maryland working with all the major golf brands. Mike attended the Ping fitting school for clubs and putters. His store was full-service retailer offering lessons, launch monitor sessions, club fittings, and club repair. In 2003 Mike won the Southern Maryland four-ball championship.

He sold his store in 2007 and moved to Myrtle Beach.  For the last 10 years he has studied putting gurus such as Bob Rotella and David Stockton, extrapolating and expanding on those methods to develop a mental putting system.  In 2012 he began coaching his daughter, Mia Gray, who is now one of the best golfers in the Carolinas. Mike applied his mental game techniques to his daughter’s game when she was 13, and three months later she won the Carolinas 15 and under Championship. At age 15 she finished in the top 10 at the SC Women’s Amateur beating top amateurs and D1 college players. Her success has largely been due to the mind techniques she uses while putting.  Mike is now the varsity Head Golf Coach at Carolina Forest High School.  He has been teaching his mental techniques to his players for five seasons and four players have received college scholarships to play golf.
